A little bit about me.

I’m a graphic designer, illustrator and type designer from Germany, living in London. The path leading to what I’m doing now was not exactly straightforward. Then again it sometimes takes a detour to know what you want to do with your life. After finishing school and working the mandatory 13 months in a hospital, I started to study law in Germany. Graphic design was really what I wanted to do, but several factors did make me abandon this idea for a while. I like research, but maybe the idea of spending my life between stacks of files and law books made me realise that it was not right for me at all. I came to a point where I wondered what I would do if nobody cared about what I did. It became completely clear in an instant: quit law and try everything to become a graphic designer. And that’s what I did, not knowing where this path would take me. At the time it meant to abandon what looked like a secure situation and start over. Leaving it all behind.

So I quit my law studies, prepared a portfolio and was accepted at an art college. After finishing my degree in 2007 I was lucky enough to get a job in London which came highly recommended (by Pentagram Berlin) as a place for its high standards in typography. I haven’t really looked back since. And the law studies were not a waste of time either. Knowing how to do scientific research has helped me later with other subjects. And I would say it’s been useful when writing guidelines – although I’m very happy that the scope of graphic design is much wider than that.

Since coming to London I have worked for small and big agencies on a variety of projects, ranging from 200-page guidelines documents to wall graphics to bespoke typefaces and illustrations. I have also done talks on typography at McCann and the IPA. While at McCann I created a printed newsletter on lesser known aspects of typography which I kept going from 2013 until 2020. It will now become part of an internal learning programme. As you can tell, I love type!

Have a look at my work and do get in touch if you like what you see.
